It’s been a rollercoaster of a year, hasn’t it?
Six months ago, I sat down at my piano to record a cover of “If The World Is Ending” and I never could have predicted what happened next. Now, with JP Saxe recording a response to our first viral TikTok, things seem to have come full circle! My favourite part of this wonderful craziness has always been connecting with all of you, so this seems like the perfect time to reengage my blog!
If you’ve watched the “20-Ish Questions” segment on my YouTube channel, some of these fun facts might sound familiar to you. (If you haven’t watched it, finish reading this blog and then watch it! I’ll link it for you here.)
TRID kept asking me how many pianos I’ve played in my life. I don’t know the number, so I said one hundred, but that’s probably close to true! I’ve played pianos all over the world, in Canada, where I was born, in Boston, where I live now, and in countless other places around the world. I can sing in seven languages, and although TRID would call me a show-off for saying that, really what I’m trying to tell you is that music has always been universal to me.
The first song I ever played on the piano was “Part of Your World”, from The Little Mermaid.
I’ve come a long way since then, so far that now I have two kids who are learning to play their first songs on our piano (which happens to be my childhood piano)! My path in music has been difficult to see sometimes, but my passion never wavered. It’s recently become much clearer––because of all of you!
I don’t spend all my time on music; I do have other hobbies–– art, cooking, playing with my kids, and binge-watching tv shows. TRID would say that’s not a hobby, that’s a waste of time, but hey, this is my blog! Raising a family, making music and creating content is hard work, and sometimes you just need a little downtime, right? Or a cup of coffee on a comfy sofa - these are also acceptable goals!
Still, music and laughter form the cornerstones of my life, and I think that’s why all of you are here with me. To laugh, to love, and to listen to good music. As I work on my EP, I hope you can #findyourhappy with me.
